Martin is a sixty three year old ex-restaurateur and chef de cuisine . He describes writing as his first love and did a B.A in English and History before becoming a chef.
He started writing again when Waterford local radio station WLR asked him to do a weekly recipe slot in 1980, just after he opened his restaurant ‘Dwyers’ in Mary Street. Martin went on to write a weekly cookery piece in Waterford Today and has contributed various articles to the Irish Times and other internet magazines.
Martin sold his Waterford restaurant in 2004 and in 2005 he started a Blog on his internet site www.martindwyer.com
In 2006 he and his wife Síle bought an old presbytery in Languedoc in the south of France which they lovingly restored and then opened as a Chambre d’Hote, Le Presbytere in 2010.
Martin has been working on his first book for the last months which he describes as “part memoir, part travelogue and part recipe book“ The working title is : “À Table – an Irish chef in a village in the Languedoc.”
